About This Pattern

This free tutorial includes everything you need to complete the square, including the printable C2C graph, row-by-row written instructions, colour guide and finished measurements. Whether you're creating a single crochet square or collecting every animal in the series, this cheerful crocodile is a fun crochet project that works beautifully with the other Wild Animals C2C designs.

Using the popular Corner-to-Corner crochet technique, each square is worked diagonally from one corner to the opposite corner, gradually revealing the finished image. Every animal in the collection uses the same graph size, making it easy to mix and match your favourite designs into one coordinated blanket.

Construction Guide

Quick Guide: How to Crochet a Corner-to-Corner (C2C) Square

Corner-to-Corner (C2C) crochet is worked diagonally, starting at one corner and increasing one block at a time until the square reaches its full size. Once you've reached the widest point, you'll decrease each row to complete the opposite corner.

Step 1 – Create the First Block

Begin by chaining six stitches. Work one double crochet into the fourth chain from your hook and one double crochet into each of the remaining two chains. This forms your first C2C block.

Step 2 – Increase the Square

At the beginning of each new row, chain six to create a new block. Continue adding one block per row while following the colour changes shown on the graph until your square reaches 25 × 25 blocks.

Step 3 – Follow the Graph

Read the C2C graph diagonally, changing yarn colours where indicated. The written instructions included below follow the same order as the graph, making it easy to keep your place as you crochet.

Step 4 – Decrease to Finish

Once you've reached the widest part of the square, begin decreasing by slip stitching across the first block of each row before continuing the pattern. Repeat until only one block remains.

Step 5 – Finish Your Square

Fasten off your yarn, weave in all loose ends, and gently block the square if needed. Your finished crochet square is now ready to use on its own or join with the other Wild Animals C2C Squares to create a colourful blanket.

Beginner Tips

  • Read through the pattern before you begin.
  • Count your blocks at the end of every row.
  • Keep your yarn bobbins organised to reduce tangles.
  • Weave in your ends as you go to save time later.
  • Block each completed square before joining for the neatest finish.
